After their top-order collapse in the first game, India adopted a more circumspect approach on a slow surface. Openers Ajinkya Rahane and Murali Vijay managed just 70 in the first 19 overs, but extended that to 112 in the next seven. Vijay struck his maiden ODI fifty, while Rayudu, who later injured his thigh, had lucky escapes on 16, when an lbw shout from Chamu Chibhahba was turned down (there was no DRS), and 26, when Brian Vitori dropped him at long-on, and also suffered a thigh injury. The only time India didn't have it all their own way was in their last ten overs, when Neville Madziva showed skill with the reversing ball to record career-best figures. Bhuvneshwar's double strike in a superb opening spell reduced Zimbabwe to 43-3, and they never recovered, with Sean Williams having to bat through tendonitis of the knee. Chibhabha stroked a pleasing 72 but, when he was smartly run out by Rahane, Zimbabwe's meagre hopes left with him.
