A shootout in sunny Nelson between Williamson and Jayawardene went the way of the New Zealander. On his return from injury, Williamson's 103 off 107 balls steered his side home, and made him the first New Zealand batsman to score three one-day international centuries from No. 3. From 63 for three, he set the platform in a stand of 88 with Elliott, before the polish was applied by Anderson and Ronchi, who crashed three sixes off Tissara Perera in a 15-ball dash. Herath - who inadvertently trod on Williamson's bat trying to cut off a run, leaving two big scratches - was again the pick of the attack. Sri Lanka had been equally well set up by their top-order old firm, but fatally rocked when Milne, whose pace added a new dimension to New Zealand's attack, removed Sangakkara and Mathews with successive balls; Southee and McClenaghan swept through the lower order. Sangakkara overtook Sanath Jayasuriya (13,430) to become the third-highest run-scorer in one-day internationals, behind Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting.
