West Indies v Australia, 2011-12

Wisden's review of the first ODI, West Indies v Australia, 2011-12

15-Apr-2013
At Arnos Vale, St Vincent, March 16, 2012. Australia won by 64 runs. Toss: Australia. One-day international debuts: J. Charles; G. J. Bailey.
A tense finish was looming in a low-scoring contest as Samuels and Dwayne Bravo repaired West Indies' start of 33 for three with a partnership of 64. But they both fell at 97, as did Baugh: in total, six wickets went down for seven runs, and the contest was all but over. Sammy lashed three sixes, but they were scant consolation for those spectators who had not already headed for the exits. Doherty, launched for three straight sixes by Samuels in his first over, had a satisfying comeback with two wickets in three balls, and quickly added Russell and Narine, effectively settling the outcome. Just a week after Australia's triumph over Sri Lanka in the home tri-series finals, their batsmen had found it difficult to come to terms with a slow, turning pitch that restricted strokeplay against some tight bowling, especially from Roach and Narine. Five passed 20, but none bettered George Bailey's 48 from 67 balls on his one-day debut; it would be the highest score of the match.
Man of the Match: G. J. Bailey.
