Zimbabwe v West Indies 2000-01

At Bulawayo, July 1

At Bulawayo, July 1. West Indies won by five wickets. Toss: West Indies.
Needing to win and vastly improve their run-rate to stay in the tournament, Zimbabwe took the match to the penultimate ball - despite losing their third successive toss and three cheap wickets. Again Wishart launched the rescue, this time with Flower helping him add 126 in 22 overs. Flower produced some superb strokes, hitting two sixes and five fours; with Whittall and Blignaut chipping in, Zimbabwe's last ten overs brought 82 runs on a pitch getting ever better. West Indies started well against some inaccurate bowling - Murphy was out of the attack after injuring his ankle - and with wickets in hand they could afford to drop behind the asking-rate later on. Chanderpaul's unlucky dismissal - he lost hold of his bat, sweeping, and it crashed into the stumps - left them needing 79 from ten overs. In Jacobs, however, they had the ideal man for such a situation.
Man of the Match: G. W. Flower.
