Chennai Super Kings

Super Kings' path to the playoffs

Kanishkaa Balachandran

Chennai Super Kings have made it to the playoffs, with a little help from their friends. Since their 16th and final league game on Thursday, a defeat to Kings XI Punjab, Super Kings’ fate depended on three other results. Here’s what happened to allow Super Kings to make it with 17 points:

Deccan Chargers v Rajasthan Royals, Hyderabad - Chargers won by five wickets
Royals, with 14 points, needed to win both their remaining games to qualify, but limped out of the tournament following a meek batting performance. Super Kings had their first lifeline.

Kings XI Punjab v Delhi Daredevils, Dharamsala – Daredevils won by six wickets
Kings XI had 16 points going into their final league game. A win would have taken them past Super Kings. Kings XI couldn’t post a challenging score against the table-toppers and stumbled out. Super Kings had two out of three.

Deccan Chargers v Royal Challengers Bangalore, Hyderabad – Chargers won by nine runs
Super Kings’ campaign looked all but over when Royal Challengers were set to chase a middling 133. Royal Challengers’ batsmen, however, imploded against the fiery Dale Steyn, and Super Kings were through in fourth place, edging out Royal Challengers on net run-rate.

Every team played 9x2 matches and CSK came as 4th. Whats the big deal about this 3 matches, luck etc ???

Folks whatever said and done, it is left to final Metro cities(Delhi, Mumbai, chennai and Kolkata) to see who is the best and obviously you know who the winner of this IPL would be...

Hi, whatever said is fine, but LUCK is favouring Dhoni Bhai, everytime. This is the right time U pull up your socks and as TEAM fight against all odds. Wishing u all the best for a Hat TRICK. U guys are capable provided u pick the right combination. Adivse would be Dhoni to bat at no.3 and the rest follow.

Yes CSK did not play to their potential in some of their matches thats y they in 4th position. else they should have been in top 2.. fate is csk have to play one more match to play final because of that... I can say to other team fans.. Please Dont get afraid of CSK, and comment dhoni is lucky or, without talent with just luck one can not stay long.. and CSK points with net run rate is the proof of the same... so , all the best CSK to rock again.........

I seriously dont understand why everyone are saying tht CSK made it with their Luck. Think this way, all the other team also had 16 matches to play and make to play offs. Every other team had their fate in their own hands to do well and get past CSK. When they couldnt cross the finish line, why should you write off CSK with their Luck? They played 16 games, won 8 of it and had 1 match with no result. RCB had the same stats. But its the runs that were conceded by the team and runs scored by the team made the difference. So please dont talk about Luck and respect that CSK moved to play offs as they were better against either the other teams or played better than other teams during the league.

Hi Guys! please do not take your frustrations out by saying it is shame for CSK to go for Finals. Please dont forget the last two years IPL cup plus a Champions trophy talks more than your frustration words.CSK has been the champions and they are champions and will be champions this time also.So please dont make youself shame by your frustration.

I am not a doomsayer ..but we dont know the result yet and we can't also ..one thing if chennai goes on to win the tropy ,it won't be a big surprise for me .They have the firepower of raina and morkel and even MS at times looked in good nick ..Ultimately what matters is the tropy and i truely believe that CSK is going to win this time also.

CSK are in play offs not because of luck...RCB,KXI,RR doesnt deserve to be in play offs..RCB is just a single man team..if Gayle fails, whole team fails..CSK can show good fight when compared to other 3 teams..go CSK go CSK...show all others that are kings of IPL...

for all those guys who are talking about back door entry, please understand that you are talking about people like kohli, dhoni, dilshan, muralidharan, ans many more legends of the game. IPL is a great treat, and t20 is a game of funny turns. there are people not understanding this game who claim it to be fixed, just as they claim hard rock is devil worship. it was a crunch game and rcb lost it. for argument sake we can also say csk lost to kings XI to improve the trp ratings of the forthcoming matches. trust in the integrity of the players, if not the owners
