Kings XI Punjab sign Michael Neser

A round-up of the IPL news from April 30, 2013

Michael Neser, the Queensland fast bowler, has replaced the injured Ryan Harris in the Kings XI Punjab squad. Harris had returned to Australia last week after being diagnosed with an Achilles tendon injury.

Neser, born in South Africa, moved to Australia at the age of 10. He made his first-class debut for Queensland in 2010. Even though he hasn¹t been a regular in the Queensland side, he has had an impressive stint with Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League.

Chipli joins Delhi Daredevils
Bharat Chipli, the Karnataka batsman, has been signed by Delhi Daredevils as the replacement for the injured batsman Venugopal Rao. Rao injured himself while fielding during the match against Mumbai Indians and returned to the dressing room after being in the field for four overs. Chipli was part of Deccan Chargers the last two seasons.

dont know which IPL matches some of you are following as Azhar Mahmood's bowling alone has been instrumental in Kings XI in many of his team's wins this season. Yes his batting has faltered but you name me one 38 year old in this or even last year's IPL who has bowled as well and at a consistent 125-130kph face like Mahmood's! Kings XI must note that Mahmood's success in Country T20, ICL and for other teams worldwide has been batting at No 3 or 4 and not at the depth !

I don't know what the advantage to Punjab is after this decision. Old Horse cant change the fortune for Punjab, even i don't think so he gonna get any position in the final 11. This step is just to meet the quota numbers of the foreign players. Harris out so Mason in now, and Punjab has issue with the Batting I reckon, should have signed specialist batsman or all-rounder who can do some miracle for them.

Punjab problem is batting. They need more fire power. The Indian bowling is quite decent and should be allowed to manage fully. I would have Gilchrist (captain). He is the best. Indians: Mandeep, Vohra/Gurkeerat (Batsmen), Chawla, Praveen, Awana, Gony and B Bhat /Harmeet Foreign: Gilchrist (Captain), Shaun Marsh (great performer for them in past), D Hussey (finish with David Miller), David Miller (great finisher). Azhar is out as he is not really contributing enough.

One cannot have 3 Indian batsmen as they are too inexperienced.

Sunrisers Hyderabad have surprisingly won a few matches with 3-4 Indian batsmen but then they have very poor batting choices in the team. They have won close games due to bowling and primarily luck.

WHAT!! Michael Mason, Common this old horse does not make any difference in the side. I believe the team is pretty good this time, all they need a right hand off spinner like harbhajan who can hit in the death overs and who can captain the side as well in the absence of gilli coz david hussey was shyt as captaining the side. he doesnt even know then to use his death bowlers like parveen and mahmood. and i believe Kings X1 need an annalist or mentor or a strategy matter who can guide people like mahmood, gony, chawla, and parveen to do the partnership with the top or middle order batsmen. why doesnt they play with Paul Valthaty, Gillchrist, Miller, Hussey, Marsh/Mahmood, Mandy, Chawla, Gony, Parveen, Awana, Harmeet/Bhargav.

Mandy should have been used in middle order only and David miller should have handed the more responsibility at the one down.

@Kiran: Agreed, Thomas is brilliant, he seems a nice bloke off the field too. It seems that he's decided to take a 3 year county deal with Somerset rather than risk an IPL contract.

I suspect his IPl contract wasn't worth much, I don't recall reading any big numbers attached to his name which is ironic because there's a few players who must be blessed by the Good Lord as only heaven knows why they attracted such high bids from various franchises.

Then again, if you look at Mumbai Indians, their "think tank" is famous for their lack of thinking. If I was in their management, I'd have recommended Thomas any day over the likes of Coulter-Nile, Clint McKay, Thissara Perera etc etc

KXIP should have used this opportunity to buy a good all rounder/bowler like Vernon Philander or Rangana Herath to replace Azhar Mahmood who is not performing that well this IPL..

Why Sunrisers do not sign Kaif instead of A Reddy, the opener. At-least Kaif can bring in the stability in the batting while Sanga can sit-out and allow White, Perera, Sammy n Steyn to play without any issues....

these are strange purchases/signings by IPL franchises. I wonder why Alfonso Thomas is not playing IPL? He played one season for Pune and he is a wonderful fast bowler, especially in T20.
