South Africa have retained the 14-man squad that lost the Champions Trophy semi-final for the first of the five one-dayers against India. Graeme Smith, under fire for indifferent form and tactics, will continue as the skipper. The first one-dayer will be played at Johannesburg on November 19.
UCBSA selection convenor Haroon Lorgat said that the panel was unsatisfied with the national team's one-day performances over the last one year. And so they were looking for more options. That was one reason the selectors chose the team for one game only because they anticipate performances from other players in the domestic one-day matches and the tour game.
The semi-finals of the domestic one-day championship will be played on Friday and Sunday with the final scheduled for next Friday. India kick off the tour with a a warm-up one-day game against Rest of South Africa at Benoni on November 16.
"Those games will give us a lot of information from which we can shape the squad for the rest of the (five) one-day games against India," Lorgat said.
Meanwhile Ashwell Prince will lead the the Rest of South Africa squad of 15 which include ten other players with international caps.
