22 Number of centuries Hashim Amla has scored in Tests. With his unbeaten ton on Saturday, Amla pipped Gary Kirsten to third place in the list of South Africa batsmen with most Test centuries. Jacques Kallis leads the list with 45 hundreds, followed by Graeme Smith, who finished with 27.
382 Deliveries faced by Amla in his unbeaten innings of 139. Since balls-faced information has been made available, this was the sixth-longest innings in terms of deliveries faced by an overseas batsman in Sri Lanka. Stephen Fleming's 476-ball 274 at the P Sara Oval is the longest innings played by an overseas batsman in Sri Lanka.
135 Number of innings Amla has taken to hit 22 Test hundreds, which is the seventh-fastest among the 31 batsmen who have hit at least as many centuries. Not surprisingly, Don Bradman was the fastest to 22 Test hundreds, having hit them in just 58 innings, 53 fewer than Sunil Gavaskar who is the next batsman in that list. Sachin Tendulkar (115 ), Mohammad Yousuf (122), Wally Hammond (127) and Matthew Hayden (129) are the other five batsmen who were faster than Amla to reach 22 Test centuries.
253 Balls Amla took to complete his century, his second slowest in Tests. His fighting 268-ball hundred on a fourth-innings pitch at the Eden Gardens in 2010 is his slowest.
0 Test hundreds made by South Africa captains in Sri Lanka before Amla's unbeaten 139 in this match. Including this knock, there have been only three hundreds scored by South African captains in the subcontinent. The last one was made by Smith in 2008 in Chittagong.
3 Runs scored off 58 deliveries by JP Duminy in his laboured stay at the crease in South Africa's first innings. His innings was one of the slowest of 50 or more balls by a top-order batsman. Duminy has been exceptionally slow early in his innings this year; in the five innings that he has lasted 50 or more balls in 2014, his first 50 balls have produced scores of 7 (v Australia, Centurion), 22 (v Australia, Port Elizabeth), 10 (v Australia, Cape Town), 12 (v Sri Lanka, Galle) and 3 in this innings. Duminy's strike rate in the first 50 balls of his innings this year has been 21.6, as opposed to his overall strike rate of 45.25 in 2014.
9 Number of times two Sri Lanka spinners have each taken four or more wickets in an innings. The last such instance was against England in the second innings of the Galle Test in 2012 when Rangana Herath took 6 for 97 and Suraj Randiv partnered him with figures of 4 for 74.
2 Five-fors taken by Dilruwan Perera in Tests. His first five-wicket haul was against Bangladesh in Dhaka earlier this year. His 5 for 69 was also the first five-wicket haul at home by a Sri Lanka spinner other than Rangana Herath since Ajantha Mendis took 6 for 169 against West Indies in Galle in 2010.
5 Number of times out of eight instances since 2013 that South Africa have conceded a first-innings lead when fielding first. In the previous four instances, South Africa lost two and won two, while the Johannesburg Test against India last year resulted in a draw.
