We have a 9.45am start tomorrow, by the way. See you then

5.20pm: And as we feared, that's stumps folks. Sri Lanka fought hard early, got through to Tea relatively unscathed, but there was enough in the surface to keep New Zealand interested, and they probed away, to eventually be rewarded with Kusal Mendis' wicket. They would have definitely liked to have had a few more overs at Angelo Mathews but that wasn't to be, which makes the morning session, forgive the cliche, crucial. Dimuth karunaratne has carried on from Galle, his tenacity proving invaluable in these conditions. He's one short of fifty but undoubtedly eyeing a lot more.

Abhijato: "Karunaratne is in the (captaincy as well as batting) form of his life ... Time's ripe for him to score another century, this time in the first innings itself!"

kieran: "I wonder if a bit of Ferguson brute might have been the answer when a new man came to the crease, to make life uncomfortable?" Think New Zealand have kept the pressure well and truly on, just that the method has been a bit different from your suggestion, and arguably more suited to the surface

Luck_min_a : "Need a strong partnership from dimuth and Mathews for SL to put in a competitive score at least 350. what do you reckon Ankur" Fair call. Similarly, a wicket or two could lead to a few in quick succession, particularly as the batsmen to come are all naturally attacking and it's been a pitch for a grind. There's just enough there for the seamers to keep the batsmen honest, as they say

5.02pm: Umpires have a word and decide that the light's not good enough to continue. The players walk off. Seems unlikely that we'll have any more play today but we'll have an official update soon. Remember, no floodlights at this venue either.

Boult to Mathews, no run, quicker one, 88 mph on the stumps, squirted away off a thickish outside edge towards point

35.1
0
Boult to Karunaratne, no run, back of a length outside off, from over the wicket. Punched solidly to cover

Suley: "Where's Boult? Get him to bang in a few Yorkers with CDG on the other end " - you've got a hotline to Kane, Suley? Because here's Boult

34.1
0
de Grandhomme to Karunaratne, no run, going across, fullish which allows him to stick his leg out and bring out the flowing drive to extra cover

Frase: "Sides just can't help underestimating CdG as a bowler. Great exponent of the lost art of bowling slow. Keeps it tight mostly too. Known as a batting all-rounder but I think he's likely to end up being remembered for his 7-for against Pakistan on debut and that awesome bowling spell in the World Cup final." - and for some of his big-hitting in white-ball cricket too!

Southee to Mathews, no run, was aiming for the lbw, bowled this very straight on the stumps after going wide all over, but drags it a bit short - perhaps going for extra pace - and Mathews is able to defend it easily
33.5
