Sutherland takes the final wicket! Bowls a short ball on Mishra, who goes for a pull and somehow gets a bit of bat on it as Mooney completes the catch
AUS Women vs IND Women, 2nd ODI at Brisbane, AUS v IND [W], Dec 08 2024 - Match Result
That's it from us today. Hope you all enjoyed our coverage. The series moves to Perth with the final ODI on Wednesday. For now, I am signing off on behalf of my team. Take care!
Tahlia McGrath: "It was pretty nice to watch. The Volley 100 was obviously the highlight, but everyone in the top four did their job and it was pretty nice just to sit back and watch everyone show. It's the confidence in her. I thought she played some lovely drives down the ground early and just looked completely comfortable. I wasn't sure how they were going to get her out. [On Perry,] As soon as she stepped to the wicket, you could see her intent. Some serious six hitting in there as well. That's what we're about. That's what we want to be about, taking the game on and creating a platform. Yeah, our top four executed it perfectly today. [On rotating bowlers] It's actually a challenge. Every time I go to make a bowling change, there's seven bowlers in my mind. It is a challenge. Short spells today, just chopping and changing. Hoping to get a little bit more out of the wicket, so we have to just be pretty simple with our plans. Hopefully a bit of bounce over the WACA will be nice."
Ellyse Perry is the Player of the Match: "A really different game of cricket to the other day. Also, I think really nice for us to have a platform that we're doing with some awesome contributions throughout the order. And then, yeah, I thought we bowled really well. Yeah, probably flat and, you know, our wickets weren't offering as much today. So it was good to sort of toil away there and finish where we did. I think there's probably still more opportunity for us there, which is awesome. You know, we're really fortunate to have a lineup that we're doing. I think it's just about making the most of that for everyone, wherever their role is in a particular game and how they come in. So, yeah, it's been a really great discussion point for us. And I think we're really enjoying the challenge of trying to take that forward. So, yeah, I said things at the start, they just set the tone beautifully and we're just glad to come in and play in front.
[on batting performance] Yeah, actually, I was better in the adjustment. We played a lot of T20 cricket in the last little bit, but I suppose in a way, like not too much changes, like you mentioned in gears, positive rolling and just picking the right moments and the right bowlers to play the shots that you want to, to kind of get the innings going. We've got complimentary batters throughout the auditorium style. The way bowling picks that mid-wicket poppet, Phoebe's so productive with her feet and then having Beth above her left hand and coming through the middle. We've just got options to, I guess, manipulate the bowling. And it worked for us today, which was really cool."
Harmanpreet Kaur: "I think we got some partnerships in between despite a big total. Still we had a positive approach, looking for boundaries. But we were short by few runs. We created a few opportunities with the ball but we couldn't take it. They batted really well, credit to them. In bowling, we need to go back and think about plans. We expected some more movement but we didn't get that here. We need to bat a bit longer and bat a full 50 overs moving forward. We had a few 40s but couldn't convert it to fifty or hundred."
5.27pm: A comprehensive victory for Australia as they clinch the ODI series 2-0 with a game in hand. Two big hundreds from Voll and Perry and fifties each from Litchfield and Mooney - that's a solid contribution from Australia's top four to lift them to 371, their highest total against India in ODIs. It was a tall ask for India, who are quite reliant on the likes of Harmanpreet, Mandhana and Rodrigues. They had starts from their batters but none of them stayed long enough to chase it down nor was aggressive for this kind of contest. Ghosh scored her maiden fifty as an opener after Punia was out with a niggle, Rodrigues was positive and so was Mani at the end, scoring an unbeaten 46. But India needed more than a few starts. For Australia, it was a collective bowling effort with Sutherland starring with four wickets.
