taken at deep extra cover! On a length and wide of off, as Green went lashing at it. That was hit hard, but not with great power, as the ball found the fielder placed pretty close to the rope. Warriors win by 34 runs, but not without a fight from Warriors
Amazon vs Tallawahs, 11th Match at Basseterre, CPL 2023, Aug 27 2023 - Match Result
Hetmyer and Keemo Paul's 99-run partnership is GAW's highest for the 5th wicket in T20s, breaking the record of 82 between Shoaib Malik and Rutherford
Another high-scoring game in Basseterre. Both teams rescued themselves from troublesome situations, but only one of them could win. Warriors put up 210 from 22 for 3, as the 34-run win keeps them unbeaten. They are second on the points table, with a net run rate far clear of the next best. That was it from us from this game though, as the CPL action continues later today. Until then, goodnight and goodbye!
Imran Tahir on the win: "I like to play with pride, and like to set standards. I am also pleased to see how I ran and took the catches! We have our two or three overseas guys at the top. We are very confident of any situation we get into... Keemo played really well; he hit the ball clean. We were lucky we got wickets in the powerplay. That put us up front, but if I have to be honest, I must improve going into the next game. Motie bowled very well; he was unlucky. I have to accept as a captain that it's a small ground. Bowlers are going to for runs; it's about how you come back. Captaincy is a challenge. I have been given this opportunity, and I am grateful. We are not looking that far (at the trophy), but that's our target."
Brandon King speaks first: "We played the combination of the extra spinner thinking there was something there. We didn't bowl as consistently as we would have liked. They didn't start very well either... so we knew we could potentially catch up [too] in the end. [Wasim and Allen's batting] is a big positive. They batted very smartly. They picked their bowlers, and did very well. Alex Hales is ready to go from this point; he came in just yesterday."
Sampath has a nice stat for us: the 300-plus runs scored by those batting at No. 5 and lower in this game is the highest for any T20 match. The next best of 262 had come back in 2012.
Romario Shepherd is the Player of the Match for his all-round show: "My hard work - I have been working very hard. Keemo played a fantastic innings; that was great. Fitness is a very key part of my game, since I have to bat and bowl. It's about having that fire inside you, and for it to burn for longer. It's about keeping your foot on the gas."
1.35pm Tallawahs were 36 for 5 after seven overs. Wasim and Allen fought back to add 97 off 59 balls, but the irreparable damage had already been done by then. Rarely do you see a day when so many outstanding catches are taken by different fielders of the same team, and today was that day for Warriors. But much before that athleticism from their fielders, Warriors' batters had done their job. Hetmyer hit 60, Paul cracked 57, and Shepherd played a handy cameo in the end. Hang around for the presentation.
full ball outside off. Looks to swing, but gets an inside edge
Irshad is the last man
potential run-out chance, and the umpire at the bowler's end now needs the third umpire. And Amir is well short, as expected when he only seemed to be casually running. Green went heaving over the off side, losing his bottom hand off the bat in the process. The ball went on the bounce to deep point, where Ayub got that over his head and threw it back in time
Hajji49: "Credit to JT for at least going down swinging. Great knock by Imad. NRR might still take a hit but at least there is an effort to minimize said damage"
slashed to deep extra cover! On a length outside off, and he flat-bats that with force to beat deep point
yorker on middle, and driven back
Amir
ah, appeal for a potential stumping, and the square-leg umpire goes upstairs. It's not a no-ball, first of all. The ball was full and a bit wide of off, as Walsh tried to half-sweep-half-swipe but missed. The ball went over his bat eventually, and he fell over on the pitch on his stomach. That made him lose balance, with both his feet in the air when the bails were whipped off. So it's out, and Walsh's cameo ends
again there's a bit of skip down, and he pushes this shortish ball off the inside half of his bat to deep midwicket
From over now
crashed over the bowler's head. Jumps out of the crease at this length ball, and leans into this loft by just going through the line to deposit six more
more wide balls. Full and far from off, and another leave
just a gentle flick, and over deep midwicket. Skips out and converts this into a full toss on his pads, and simply lofts that
looks to reverse sweep, but the length is short and outside leg. Hit on his body
full and wide of off, and he lets that go. Called wide
Motie from around
guides this between the keeper and short third. Short of a length just outside off, and another slower ball. He waits for it, before tucking it late for four more. That ends an over that started an hour back
a swat-pull, and four to deep midwicket's left. Short ball at a change of pace on middle and off - there was good bounce nevertheless - as Green rode it and clubbed that
swats this wide of mid-off, as the ball is short and outside off, with Green jumping out of the crease to attack that
okay, one more: full and outside off again, and wide enough for Green to miss his swing
another wide. Full and far away from off, and left alone by Green
short of a length on middle, and clipped to fine leg
full and very wide of off. Left alone, and given wide
full ball angling in, and ending outside leg. Misses his flick, and is called wide
Walsh in, with Pretorius from around
