caught at long on! Australia win by an innings! 147kph, length ball, the field was back after that first shot, he swung hard and miscued it high towards long on, Wade had to wait a long time while underneath it but he takes it safely
Australia vs Pakistan, 1st Test at Brisbane,WTC, Nov 21 2019 - Match Result
That concludes our commentary from the Gabba. Australia dominant again. But some positives for Pakistan in the second innings. The second Test starts on Friday in Adelaide. It is a day-night pink ball Test. Do join us then. Goodbye for now.
5.08pm Presentation Azhar Ali: "When we won the toss, we wanted to score big in the first innings. But I think on the first day we won two sessions but we lost one very badly. I think if you lose one session very badly in Test matches it is always very hard to come back from that especially in Australia. I think that was the missed opportunity. Then when we came out to bowl we didn't build enough pressure. Babar and Rizwan showed the way today and also Shan played really well. It's always tough leaving Abbas out. He's always performed well for us. But these three who played had been bowling exceptionally well. They bowled phenomenally against a very good Australia A side. I think Abbas is always there for us. We'll look at the balance in the next couple of days. Naseem was bowling well. He looked very fit. We don't want him to break obviously. He is very young. We want him to have a long career. Yes we want him badly but we had to manage him accordingly."
Tim Paine: Really happy. Any time you win a Test by over an innings you've done a lot right. Really proud of the way we started. There's no secret throughout the winter we relied on Steve Smith a little bit too much. We've got some real quality in our batting order. We've got some games into some guys now like Marnus and Travis Head. So we've got a reasonable batting line up and to score 580 is what you want. Fantastic to see Davey back. We knew when he got back to Australia he's a different proposition and he played superbly. Joe and David have a really good connection and I thought they set the tone. I think everyone was really proud of Marnus. He works as hard as anyone. We were really pleased for Marnus to finally arrive on the big stage. I thought the bowlers were pretty good. We hold them to a really high standard. They've taken 20 wickets for us so we're lucky to have them."
Marnus Labuschagne is player of the match. Marnus Labuschagne: "It's pretty special to have it pan out like this. It's good to have a winning contribution and help us win the Test match. It's a big thing for not only me but also my family. Some of the technical changes that I have done since England have helped me so much."
Australia win by an innings and 5 runs inside four days. They were simply too good. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan tested Australia today. Babar made an outstanding century, his second in Tests. Rizwan came with five runs of his first before holing out. Australia's quicks were outstanding on a flat pitch. Hazlewood finished with four wickets, Starc picked up three including two key breakthroughs last night.
Australia go 1-0 up.
Pat Cummins: "Our batters set it up. Gave the bowlers two days off and it was easier on fresher legs. Babar and Rizwan batted beautifully. it was a pretty nice wicket. Not much sideways movement. They batted beautifully and took advantage of that."
Pranav Raj: "Gabbatoir remains unbreached"
148kph, full and straight, he backs away and smashes a line drive over the bowlers head! Are you kidding!? What a shot. The best shot of his Test career! He nailed that
Around the wicket
138kph, low full toss, tailing in, he bunts this to mid on
nearly bowled! 136kph, top of off, he backed away to try and hit it out of the stadium, he missed and it went over off
caught at cover! 133kph, short ball, he swipes across the line with a wild heave, catches it high on the bat, it slices up to cover and Cummins moves across to take a simple catch
135kph, full and wide, he cleared the front leg and swung hard, but dragged it off the inside edge onto his body
Khurram Zafar: "Paineless"
136kph, bouncer, angled over off, the tall man drops to his knees and sways under it expertly
131kph, back of a length on off, he's back and defending to point, there's an easy single and they don't run. That was odd
145kph, fuller and angled across, he missed trying to drive with no footwork
Ricky Ponting reveals on commentary Paine is keeping with two fingers he broke in the Ashes that still haven't healed properly
This is way too quick for Imran
145kph, back of a length, it rears into the chest guard and bounces to short leg
144kph, short ball, into the ribs he swipes a cross bat pull infront of square to one of the three men in the deep on the leg side
146kph, attempted yorker, but it's speared down leg
144kph, length ball into the thigh guard, it bounces off his thigh pad and Labuschagne takes it neatly
142kph, cracking bouncer, he tries to pull but misses and it flies through to the keeper
Mamoon: "3 out of 5 wickets today were on loose shots, just shows how good the pitch was for batting and Pakistan made a mess in the 1st innings where they lost 5 for 20 odd runs and could never come back !"
139kph, short into the body, Imran doesn't see it, he freezes, it hits his thigh pad and runs to fine leg but they don't run as it would have been a dead ball for not offering a shot
135kph, short into the ribs, he knocks it down off the gloves behind square
Rehan Yousaf: "Looks as if Rizwan cements his place in the tests. Pakistan ought to go positive in the second test. They should frame a plot to get out Australian top order 4 batsmen, otherwise things will not get ameliorated PaKistan in the remaining matches."
beats him with a lovely delivery that zips away from a length
Third man back
135kph, short ball he tries to hammer a pull gets a thick top edge over the slips and it runs to third man for four!
Justin: "Babar gets just his second test century, Rizwan his highest test score (small sample size I know) and Yasir gets his highest test score and closes in on 50 with a first class average of 16. Still think Australia have bowled well Alex?" They're two wickets away from winning by an innings on a pitch where they made 580. So yes.
138kph, angled on the pads, he clips this one neatly to fine leg
Imran Khan is in
leading edge caught at mid off! This was angled down leg, he tried to flick this off the pads over backward square, closed the face too soon, it balloons towards mid off and Wade runs across from a wide position to take the catch sliding on his knees
