KnightRiders vs MI Emirates, 11th Match at Abu Dhabi, ILT20, Jan 21 2023 - Ball by Ball Commentary
MI Emirates won by 5 wickets (with 0 balls remaining)
Get ready for an action-packed Sunday. First, Desert Vipers will face Gulf Giants in Dubai and then tonight's winner MI Emirates will take on Dubai Capitals in Abu Dhabi. This is Rvel Zahid, signing off on behalf of Thilak Rama and Binoy George.
Let me catch my breath! What an incredible game of cricket we had. In the end, Najibullah Zadran and Dwayne Bravo held their nerve and went berserk against Russell, who ran out of ideas, in the last over. 25 runs came off the last six deliveries as Pollard looked out of sorts and Knight Riders still can't get off the mark in this inaugural edition of the ILT20. Zadran maintained his composure and was cool as a cucumber when it mattered most.
Sunil Narine will be frustrated after dominating the proceedings for the most part of the game but they lost control in the last four overs and some ragged fielding display didn't help their cause.
Najibullah Zadran is of course the Player of the Match: "Last over 20 runs is not easy. Russell is an experienced bowler but we spoke and told ourselves we can do it. I wait for the ball, back myself and stay calm during that time. I want to dedicate this award to my mother."
Kieron Pollard: "That is the nature of T20 cricket. That is what fans and viewers want to see, a close game. Obviously, DJ was there, he is an experienced campaigner and we know what Najibullah can do, so my money was on my team. It was a good game. We were not at our best with the ball, we tried to get wickets rather than trying to contain them but that's why you have two innings and our batters bailed us out. We can do better as a bowling and fielding team. You have to improve every time you get a chance and that is the chat we have in the dressing room."
Sunil Narine: "That's how cricket goes, swallow the hard pill and we move on quickly. That was a good total on that pitch and our bowlers tried their best. In close games like this, you try to pinpoint too many things. We could have fielded better and should have finished better with the bat. We have to get a few things in order. We have to take it one game at a time and take it from there."
Coruscating strokeplay continues! He slams this long-hop over backward square leg and it goes into the aisles! Fans are on the edge of their seats. This has been a thrilling contest!
Heat-seeking yorker dipping in! He digs it out to point and gets a single. 7 off 2 required
Mows it downtown! Goes full and straight and he drills it with disdain! Cometh the moment cometh the man!
Spears in a yorker, gets a bit late and finds the inside edge of the bat, this is going down to the wire
Wow, take that! Picked the bones out of that! Around the wicket, full and wide in his zone and he whacks this over midwicket for a six! Game on!
Good comeback by the seasoned off-spinner, zips it quicker on a tight middle stump line, he plays all around it
Clobbered! In his arc and goes out of the park, flatter wide of off, Zadran plonks this over long-off for a six! Clean hitting
Thwacks it insolently but couldn't quite time it well
Around the wicket, loopy delivery on a length outside off, lifts it across the line and it falls short of long on
Out comes the reverse sweep and he hasn't nailed it! Narine appeals for an lbw, umpire didn't raise the dreaded finger. He got some glove on it
Tossed up on a length on off, he slinks back and miscues a skier towards deep midwicket! Didn't connect so well as Reier takes a superb catch under pressure. Super stuff. This wicket totally changes the complexion of the game
Fires in a bumper, nibbling away in the channel, he throws his bat at it, makes some connection and it races away to the boundary, eludes the diving keeper
Full at the stumps, change-up delivery, he plants his front leg and whips this away into the acreage at midwicket
Back of the hand slow ball, no pace to work with and he muscles this away towards acres of spaces at deep midwicket, Hosein cuts it off in the deep
Banged in, attacking off stump line, slugs it across the line towards midwicket
Darts in a searing yorker right into the blockhole, digs it out to deep cover-point. Well bowled!
Slower one, low full bunger and he times this flick to perfection, finds the gap between midwicket and long-on. Excellent start for MI
Lands it on a shorter length, lots of width on offer, he holds his stance and lifts it over the bowler's head, long-off quickly intercepts the ball and returns a sharp throw
Makes some room and clubs this one! It bursts out of King's hands at wide long-on and he leaks a crucial boundary! Double-whammy!
