what a way to finish the match! It's another back of a length delivery from Manley, Melly ramps the ball over the top of the keeper and it flies over the fine third boundary. Warriors win!
Reds vs Warriors, 1st Match at Cork, INTER-PRO T20, Jun 06 2023 - Match Result
Warriors won by 6 wickets (with 24 balls remaining)
At the innings break, it seemed that the Reds total was a little under par, and it proved to be so.
The Reds bowlers couldn't create enough pressure and a couple of good partnerships would have settled any nerves that the young Warriors would have had.
Scott MacBeth was the star of the innings and finished off top scoring with 40 off only 24 balls. A fifth wicket partnership with Melly took the Warriors to the victory with four overs to spare.
By hitting the final ball for six, it also means that the Warriors pick up a welcome bonus point to start off the competition.
It's just been announced that McKeegan has been named the player of the match for his excellent bowling display. So congratulations to him for that.
All three days in Cork are going to be double headers, with the next game today between The Lightning and the Knights starting at 3:30pm. Hopefully you'll be able to join me then.
Until then, this is Justin saying goodbye from Cork.
pulls a short ball into the legside
Thick edges the ball in the air toward deep third, there is a fielder down there but the ball lands safe in front of him
crashed back down the ground! MacBeth powers the ball over the top of mid-on and it runs quickly to the boundary
clips the ball to long leg. MacBeth turns at the non-strikers end and decides to take on the fielders arm in the deep, beats the throw into the keeper with ease
slower ball, MacBeth hits the ball along the ground to mid-off
hammers the ball back past the bowler. The fielders at mid-on and mid-off don't have time to react as the ball races back past them
much better length from Delany, Melly reaches a long way in front of the bat and defends
too short and the ball is pulled down to long leg, the Warriors racing to their target now
Melly gets into the act now and skips out of the crease. Middles the ball and it flies over the wide long-on boundary. The fielders don't bother running and just clap the shot instead
defends the ball down at his own feet
clips the pad as the ball goes down the legside. The Reds appeal for a catch behind but there certainly wasn't any bat on that ball!
MacBeth gets a new bat run out, he was hitting the ball sweetly with the old one too...
stays back deep in the crease, angles the bat and runs the ball down to deep third
mis-times a pull into the legside, lands safe at mid-wicket
in the slot and MacBeth hammers the ball over cow corner for another maximum. Hit that ball very sweetly, think that it's now nestling on a tennis court on that side of the ground
driven along the ground to mid-on. The fielder picks up and throws at the non-strikers end. Melly made sure that he got his bat back in the crease in time
MacBeth swings hard at the ball again, beaten for pace
McCarthy digs the ball in short, it bounces over the top of the batter and the Keeper can't stop it either as it goes over his head too!
Huge swing at the ball, missed it by a long way and the keeper has to fall to the ground to stop it
Melly is on the front foot and looks to defend. Is hit on the pads, but the ball is going to miss off-stump and so the Umpie just shakes his head
