Malinga is down the track trying to smash it over the bowler's head, but mistimes it horribly and sends up a lob. Duminy backtracks from the crease and gets under it. Makes no mistake.
Sri Lanka vs South Africa, 3rd ODI at Hambantota, Jul 12 2014 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Matches at Galle are always high value. Will leave you with this from Apoorv: "I think Ranjit summed up AB perfectly,"He is the fusion of old and the modern way of playing cricket". Perfect definition for him"
Well, that's it from us. Join us again for the Test, which starts Wednesday, but in the meantime switch over to the England match, where Joe Root and Anderson are making history of their own.
De Villiers is up again:"It's not a World Cup, but for us it's a huge step in the right direction. Angelo and his boys have been playing a lot of good cricket. I'm exceptionally proud of the boys, there's no one or two guys that stand out. I'm just proud of the team." If you hadn't guessed it, AB is the man of the match as well.
Hashim Amla is the player of the series, having crossed 100 twice and made 48 today. Amla:"I'm grateful to get some runs. I think this wicket is the flattest wicket I've ever played on. We'll take some confidence from this going forward, but tomorrow the Test preparations start. Everyone came here with the desire to make history. We had the baggage of that last series. AB's innings today was special to take us to a big total. On this type of wicket we needed a big total to defend.
De Villiers: "Very happy with the boys. It's our first series win here, so we'll celebrate tonight. I thought we slipped up a little early but we made it up in the end. Sri Lanka bowled well in that Powerplay, but later on I was seeing the ball really well."
Presentation now. Mathews: "We don't deserve to win the way we played today. We were flat on the field, let go of a few catches and didn't play well. It was a depressing performance. Losing to a foreign team is not the end of the world. I'm happy with my own batting, but it doesn't mean anything, since we lost."
Interestingly, Tahir and Herath were the bowlers of the day. They will face off again at Galle, which is sure to take loads of spin. That's a good contest to watch as the teams move to red-ball cricket.
De Villiers was the difference between the sides in this match. What an innings his hundred was. SL looked good in the Powerplay, but then Sanga and Dilshan fell in quick succession, and Mahela's mediocre ODI run continued. Mathews and Priyanjan were shackled by good bowling and excellent fielding, while the wind died down a bit to make things easier for SA.
Imran Tahir, Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers and Ryan McLaren have been fantastic in this series. Sri Lanka were hot and cold and fell apart in the field when Malinga had a few off days.
Huge wide smiles for South Africa. AB de Villiers in particular. They were not fancied before this series, but they have been focused and intense in game one and game three. The victors get into an ecstatic huddle before they shake hands. It means a lot to them after the 4-1 drubbing last year.
floated up, straightening on middle, defended
Around the wicket now
wide of off stump, but he turns it back in just enough for it to be legal
Duminy is back
full toss on off stump, Mendis just defends it
Malinga in to face the hat-trick ball.
two in two for Morkel. That's a full toss that Senanayake tries to loft over the off side, but he's hitting into the wind and has played the shot too early in any case. Jacques Kallis gets under it at the edge of the circle and pouches it no problem. SA one wicket away from their first ODI series win in the country.
short and a little wide, Herath tries to heave it away to the leg side, but only gets a top edge. It goes high over the keeper, but QdK runs back to complete a pretty comfortable catch.
full on off stump, SS is too early into the shot, but he gets an inside edge and takes a single to the leg side
another short ball, quicker this time and closer in to the stumps. The batsman tries to repeat the dose and misses
short and somewhat wide. SS gets nicely under it and hits it over backward point for four
Morkel is into the attack

length outside off stump, Herath guides it to third man
Rangana Herath is the new man.
super catch, and that may be the game for the hosts! Again the bouncer gets rid of a batsman. Mathews doesn't control the hook shot, and the tallest man on the park is at short fine leg. Morkel sticks his giant paws up and the ball sticks to his left palm like it's a glue trap. South Africa on the brink of making ODI history here. AB plants a big kiss on Morkel's cheek. He knows what that wicket means, and he's not afraid to show it.
full delivery outside off stump, SS plays a huge drive, gets an inside edge and squirts it to short fine leg
slower short of a length ball, Senanayake tries to glide it to third man, but misses
