Pushed through and whipped away to Ecclestone at deep midwicket, plenty of oomph behind the shot but couldn't place it in the gap, Originals hold their nerve and manage to edge out Rockets but what a contest! Rockets were cruising at the halfway stage but like I said in the build-up things can change so dramatically in Hundred. Credit to Originals to pull it back and build up dots and fighting till the very end. Originals have got their first win of the season! Nat Sciver-Brunt will be feeling terrible after scoring a fifty but still not being able to get her team over the line, it was a game of fine margins
Originals vs Rockets, 7th Match at Manchester, Women's Hundred, Jul 29 2024 - Ball by Ball Commentary
What a fascinating game it turned out to be, keeping us on the edge of our seats right till the last ball! The momentum kept swinging but Kathryn Bryce managed to keep her calm when it mattered the most. Trent Rockets got plenty on the board on a track that suited change-ups and cutters, and the batters had to time it really well to find scoring opportunities. Earlier, Laura Wolvaardt set the tone upfront with a barrage of boundaries, but her run-out in the powerplay ended the brief pyrotechnics - she was looking very dangerous. From there on, the batters took some time before pressing on the accelerator again and set up a platform for a decent total. Eve Jones and Sophie Ecclestone's aggressive intent paid dividends as they guided Originals to 137. Rockets will rue how they botched up the chase even though they were going strongly in the first half and got a partnership going between captain Nat Sciver-Brunt and Ashleigh Gardner. That said, it was a Hundred classic as both teams kept coming back in a fierce tussle, giving us a thrilling finish
As always, it's a double-header, and the Men's game is about to start shortly. The comms engine is running full-throttle so switch over to this tab. On behalf of Thilak and Vairavan, it's me, Rvel, saying goodbye.
Match Hero Filer said: "It was a real team performance today. Everyone did their job and it's just so good to get over the line. The pitch is actually a bit slower than last game. We batted very, very well on it and we thought it was a good total. We talked about doing the simple things for longer and nailing our skills, and I think we did that today."
Rohantha: "Lauren Filer won the match for the Originals with her desperate diving stop on the line which saved a couple. Thoroughly deserves the Player of the Match award."
Muzahid: "Is Mahika Gaur playing in this edition? If yes then which team? nope, she's been ruled out with a side strain (would've been with the Originals)
Back of a length wide of off, forehands it down to long-off and leaves it all to the captain. Come to think of it, Rockets left plenty of runs in the end
Slammed in on a length at off, she gets underneath it and launched it high into the sky but hasn't got the distance, Mooney at wide long-on moves to her right and has taken a gem, twist in the tale. Wanted to finish the game in style but got perished in her attempt for a glory shot.
Whacks it away with gusto, Bryce crumbling under pressure, serves up a juicy half-volley outside off, no pace to cause any trouble, she backs away and clatters it into the covers
Oh dear me! starts off with a duff full one down the leg side, all she had to do was get some bat on it, slogs it away from deep fine for a four
Fired in fuller with a hint of inward seam movement, carted through the gap at deep midwicket and cow corner, gets the much-needed boundary and keeps them in the hunt, 13 off last five required, sit tight!
Dug in outside off, pace-off delivery, waits for it to come closer at her and then pulls the trigger, pulled down to deep midwicket, still no boundary, what an over it's turning out to be for Originals
Back of a length, attacking the stumps, awkward length to negotiate with, forces it down the ground towards long-on, Rockets feeling the heat
Pace-off widish yorker, slammed away to Bryce at deep cover and she fumbles but took the pace off the ball and recovers quickly to collect it again
Good length with plenty of width, drags it across the line to midwicket, sets the tone with a good delivery first up, it's getting tighter
Filer into the attack
Dragged it down towards middle, lifted up and over short midwicket, fielder at deep hunts it down quickly, 22 off 10 needed
Latches onto it in a jiffy, loosener down the leg side and she clinks it away leg side away from deep square for a four, releases the little bit of pressure
Tossed up fuller and spinning away outside off, tries a switch hit and is unable to connect, appeal for an lbw, plenty of doubt in it
Length on middle, lower trajectory, swung away to deep square's left, finding the fielders
Over the wicket, half-tracker on middle, clears front leg and biffed down to deep midwicket
Oh, that was the moment! Floated up from round, fuller and turning away, she tried a reverse sweep and the ball ballooned up dying towards the keeper, to be fair, she had no chance, got her glove on it
Plenty of flight and overpitched on middle and off, clubbed in the air over extra cover for a one-bounce four. Classical shot!
Fired into the pads, gets down on one knee to ramp it away and plays all around it, went across her stumps
Touch fuller and angled in towards middle, chalks it back towards the bowler
Round the wicket, length and spinning away wide of off, too much width on offer, she pounces on it and hammers it away insolently beating extra cover and the ball sped away to rope
