defended in to the on side off the front foot
Sri Lanka vs West Indies, 2nd Test at Colombo, Nov 23 2010 - Ball by Ball Commentary
After all the rain, here's hoping for dry weather at Pallekele for the final Test that starts on December 1. Till then, this is Abhishek Purohit signing off, along with Gopi Rangarajan. Thanks for all the feedback. Cheers!
That ends the presentation.
Kumar Sangakkara: "Not enough time to do anything on the final day. it was a tough decision to bat first, we knew it would be difficult for about four hours, it paid off as we went past 350. it was a tough hundred for me, the wicket was slow, I am pretty satisfied as playing strokes was difficult. Kula was top class, bowled tight lines. Suranga got the prize wicket of Gayle, he needs a bit more control, and he'll learn as he goes along. Brownie points don't mean anything, only a win matters. Boys are keyed up for the final Test." Sanga is also the Man of the Match for his big first-innings hundred.
Darren Sammy: "If we look at the series, it is still 0-0, we have everything to play for. Darren, Roach, Baugh all played well. Baugh showed he could get a big score. He has matured more. The runs in this game came from different people, we have some areas to work on before the third Test. It's been a long time since we went into the final Test 0-0, and the players are looking forward to it."
Sri Lanka took the five remaining West Indies wickets quickly today, and then declared soon to give them a target of 202 in 22 overs. Light allowed only half of those overs to be bowled, and during that time, the Sri Lankan spinners had the West Indies top order in trouble, taking out the openers. Hang on for the presentation
Umpire Rauf takes another light reading, and has a discussion with umpire Kettleborough, and they think the light has deteriorated enough for the players to go off. Darren and Chanders are glad to walk back, Darren has a stump in his hand. Handshakes all around as the teams decide to call it off
now goes back and across to push this one turning in from outside off back to Herath
good patience from Darren, plays out another teasingly flighted ball towards cover
bang on the middle stump, patted back down the pitch
flighted up further, he reaches forward to defend
tossed up on the stumps, pushed back down the track
Herath comes on now, from round the wicket
pushes forward to one that is on the stumps and makes him play, gets an outside edge past second slip
another one turning away, Chanders shoulders arms
this one turns sharply past the outside edge around off stump, lovely delivery
makes him play with a flatter one close to the stumps, punched away on the off side
turn and steep bounce outside off, Chanders leaves it alone
tossed up on off stump, patted back to Dilshan
Umpire Rauf takes a reading on the light meter
another googly, but still shortish, punched to short extra cover
googly, but too short, he plays it out off the back foot
now he goes over the wicket
comes forward to drive towards cover
goes back to push out this flighted delivery towards cover
goes well forward to defend this one around off stump
stretches forward to defend
Mendis from round the stumps
nicely tossed up, and beats Chanders on the forward press as it turns past his outside edge, Sri Lanka are earning some brownie points here
right on the stumps, defended down the track
