punched aerially, and wide of mid-off! The ball was on a short of a length just outside off, as she shifted her weight back, and let the ball fly between mid-off and extra cover. DC complete a dominating day by winning with six wickets and as many as 29 balls left
GG Women vs DC Women, 10th Match at Bengaluru, WPL, Feb 25 2025 - Ball by Ball Commentary
DC Women won by 6 wickets (with 29 balls remaining)
DC are at the top for the moment, but they've played more matches than any other side. They even have the second-lowest net run rate despite a thumping win today. It won't take long for the other sides to catch up, so DC will know it's going to be tough going forward. But for now, they can enjoy this win tonight. Join us tomorrow as the WPL action continues. Until then, goodnight and goodbye!
Jess Jonassen is the Player of the Match: "Loved it. Bit surprised by the opportunity, but always happy to take it. Had a bit of luck early, but that's part of the T20 game. With the new ball, for the seamers, there was a bit of shape early. It's huge [to be shown confidence in]. It was nice that it was able to come off. It's amazing; we've got almost all bases covered. Kapp is world class, and showed that again. Sadhu coming in for her first game, and taking a wicket. It's nice to know that in a certain situation we have someone put their hand up."
Meg Lanning, Capitals captain: "We bounced back really nicely. Kappy and Shikha take wickets upfront, and it makes it easy. There's been a little bit there for the bowlers; a bit of nibble. It's just about improving each game, and tightening areas which you haven't nailed. We need to keep winning. As a bowling group, if you put the ball in the right areas, there's a bit for you. Feel like we've been improving all the time. It's nice when something comes off like that [on promoting Jonassen to No. 3]."
Time for the presentations
Shafali Verma: "It was difficult in the first three overs of the second innings. The ball was holding and shaping. So the idea was to stay there till the end. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the fifty. Lanning and I have a certain mindset that we'll hit if it's in our range. We think of building it if it's only 120 [required]. If the ball is moving, then Kappy always tells me. Even in our last match, the ball was holding [on the pitch]. It's really helpful for us. If it's a small boundary, then I have to hit it!"
Ash Gardner, Giants captain: "If you look at DC's bowling line-up, they've got four international quicks. So it was always going to be challenging in the powerplay. They bowled exceptionally well, and put us under pressure. We didn't do well with the bat. We know the potential Fulmali and Kanwar have. To see them take the opportunity and put on a 50-run partnership was fantastic to see. That was a bit of shock to see Jonna come out [at No. 3]! There's nothing to be concerned about as such. When you lose three-plus wickets in the powerplay, it puts you under pressure. So hopefully, we can reflect on that. We have a really quick turnaround."
10.34pm Two points in a comprehensive win, and DC climb up to end the day right at the top of the points table. A complete, all-round performance from them. They had reduced Giants to 41 for 5 - although they would be upset by allowing Giants get to 127 from there - and knocked the target off with complete comfort. That 74-run second-wicket stand between Shafali (44*) and Jonassen (61*) came off only 37 balls, and the platform was set for Jonassen to wrap it up in a hurry. Join us for the presentations soon.
Mishra to bowl. DC need only one more.
on a length on off, and straightening in. Nudged towards point, and Jonassen is sent back
swatted over mid-off! What a confident hit! She stood there stylishly after seeing a short-of-a-length ball outside off, as the ball went for a one-bounce four
the fielder at short third dives to her right to keep this to one, as Kapp again guides a length ball there
on a length, and outside off. Slashed towards short third
dropped by Gautam! She was at short fine leg, and turned around while also moving forward. The ball dropped from over her head, though, and she put it down, as Kapp went sweeping at a full ball
full and wide-ish, and dipping at her. Driven back to Kanwar
Eight more to win. Probably the last over of the day?
drives aerially at this full ball outside off to deep cover
she dabs this good-length ball outside off towards cover point, and takes off. But she's sent back by Jonassen
Deepanshu : "DC taking "few more wickets don't matter" comment a bit seriously there"
a low full toss on middle and leg, and clipped to deep midwicket
excellent fielding by Deol! She saves two runs, as she first runs to her right from fine leg, receives the ball on the bounce, and throws it back even as she goes beyond the boundary. It was whipped hard by Jonassen off her pads
a little jab off a length ball at sixth stump, as there's some extra bounce for Gautam
Kapp
taken! Great catch by Mooney! She took it at the second attempt, even as she was falling down. On a short of a length around seventh stump, and with a scrambled seam from Gautam. The ball straightened after pitching, as Sutherland looked to punch at it while reaching out. She got a little outside edge which was dropped on the first chance by Mooney, but the latter did well to recover and take it eventually
Gautam back into the attack
ooh, this turns away off a length on off, and is chipped back. The ball goes to Kanwar's left, and is nearly a caught-and-bowled chance as Jonassen swipes back
on a fullish length around sixth stump, and going on with the arm. Punched to deep extra cover
Sutherland at No. 5
lofted to mid-off! Fulmali moves to her left and grabs it with both hands. Rodrigues decided that she too wanted to bat aggressively like Jonassen, and advanced down the track. It was a length ball angled in, and arriving outside off. She wanted to clear the in field, but missed out
this turns in off a fullish length outside off, and is cut away towards point
From around to Rodrigues
on a length around off, and cut away towards deep point
driven gently, and wide of mid-off! She skipped down, and the ball turned out to be too full to drive, but such was the timing and placement that she got four and raised her maiden WPL fifty
Kanwar replaces Dottin
pushed forward aerially towards cover, as this fullish ball dips around sixth stump and hints to turn in
