South Africa's left-arm fast bowler Beuran Hendricks is set to miss at least half of the forthcoming season and could be out until December due to a stress fracture of the back. Hendricks had suffered the injury while playing for South Africa A in Australia in July-August.
Shane Jabaar, the Cape Cobras' physiotherapist, told ESPNcricinfo Hendricks still needs "around 12 weeks" to regain full fitness and is "unlikely" to play any cricket until December.
"He is going to go through a full rehabilitation process which starts quite gently because we have to take a long-term approach to these things," Jabaar said. "His injury was caused by a combination of workload, poor mechanics and losing his technique which happens when someone does a lot of bowling."
Hendricks, who has played five T20 internationals, was the leading wicket-taker in the Ram Slam T20 Challenge last season. He took 28 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 10.28, which helped him earn a maiden call-up to the national side for the World T20. He made his T20 debut against Australia in March this year and took four wickets in three games during the World T20 before playing three matches for the Kings XI Punjab team in IPL 2014. He was part of the South Africa ODI squad for the Sri Lanka tour in July. The injury, which he suffered during the quadrangular series against Australia A, India A and Cricket Australia's National Performance Squad, also ruled him out of the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe.
