Brian Lara has said he is one of five batsmen who could open the innings when West Indies oppose Zimbabwe in two back-to-back one-day internationals at the Antigua Recreation Ground on Saturday and Sunday.
With Chris Gayle the only recognised opener named in the 13-man squad, West indies will have to choose one of their other batsmen to open the innings. Lara said he asked the question at a team meeting and four players - Denesh Ramdin, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Dwayne Bravo and Runako Morton - all volunteered.
"I asked for a show of hand and I got five guys," said Lara who was re-appointed captain for a record third time. He did not indicate who might get the nod but said whoever is chosen would be given a chance to achieve the objectives set.
"We are going to look and see what the opening batsmen have to do for the team," Lara said. "The two opening positions will have requirements and they will have to perform to keep their places."
