Scorecard
An unbeaten stand of 52 between Joseph Yovich and Peter McGlashan tilted the balance of the game towards Northern Districts after Wellington took the first-innings lead and then reduced ND to 90 for 7 at the Basin Reserve. Both batsmen took their team to 142 for 7, gaining a lead of 106.
Earlier, Wellington were dismissed for 220 after Yovich and Daryl Tuffey struck regularly. Yovich ended with 5 for 39 while Tuffey claimed 4 for 49. Stephen Fleming, unbeaten on 38 on the first day, advanced to 56 before giving McGlashan a catch off Yovich. Fleming and Chris Nevin (31) could derive some satisfaction from their showing, but the inability of the top order to convert starts meant that an opportunity to shut ND out of the game was missed.
James Franklin then made his presence felt immediately. He prised out four wickets to go with five in the first innings. However, the unbeaten stand between Yovich and McGlashan kept ND out of further trouble.
The first half-hour of the third day should determine how long ND hopes can last in this match. If Franklin finds his groove, the game could end quickly.
