There was action aplenty in the latest rounds of the HKCA Saturday, Sunday and Women's Leagues played over the Ching Ming holiday weekend 28-30 October 2006.
2006-07 HKCA Saturday League
Fine and unseasonably warm weather greeted players in the latest round of the Saturday League played on 28th October 2006.
HKU broke their duck for the season as they scored an impressive 81-run victory over Laguna Gully at Sandy Bay. HKU batted first and scored a massive 314 all out with Neil Runcieman whacking 112 and Maisif hitting 95 while Ashish grabbed three wickets for Laguna Gully. Tahir Khan then claimed five wickets for HKU as Laguna Gully was dismissed for 233 in reply, with Prakash Chakravarti scoring 61 and Rajesh Ranganathan and A Desai both hitting forties.
Kai Tak scored the second highest total of the day against Saracens at Po Kong Village Road #1 ground. Dave Ellis (53), Brett Morely (82) and Malcolm Brown (85*) made merry against the Saracens bowling attack as Kai Tak racked up an imposing 288-3 from their 35 overs. In reply, Saracens could only manage 191-9 with Dyutesh Chaudhuri scoring 58 and M Collins finishing unbeaten on 73 not out. Brett Morely completed a top individual performance by claiming five wickets as Kai Tak wrapped up their victory by 97 runs.
Plenty of runs were scored on the other Po Kong Village Road wicket as CCC suffered another defeat against Witherers. Ahmed Mukhtar hit 105 not out as CCC scored a total of 198-4 from their 35 overs. Witherers chase was lead by Nick Gavin-Brown who scored an unbeaten 111 and he received good support from Pemberton who scored 43 runs of his own as Witherers raced to an eight-wicket victory.
At Mission Road, the Hong Kong Under-19's continued their recent good form with a four-wicket victory over SCC Vampires. Vampires batted first and scored 189-8 from their 35 overs with Surijeet Banarjee top scoring with 67, while Robert Bacon picked up four wickets. The Hong Kong Under-19's chased down the total for the loss of six wickets with Nadeem Ahmed, Irfan Ahmed and Robert Bacon all making useful contributions.
At the Police Training College, Tartars scored a narrow 28 run victory in a low scoring encounter against Police. Batting first, Tartars were dismissed for just 137 as Shiraz Khan claimed the best bowling figures of the Saturday League season to date with 6-33. in a match dominated by the bowlers, Afzaal Haider then claimed five wickets for Tartars as Police were dismissed for 109 in reply. Shkawat Ali also claimed three wickets for Tartars.
At Kowloon Cricket Club, Crusaders scored a comfortable seven-wicket victory over the visiting Centaurs team. Centaurs batted first and scored 156-6 with R Cauldwell carrying his bat for 68 not out while S Perreira picked up three wickets. Simon Scanlon then hit 87 and Roy Lamsam 44 as Crusaders eased to victory in the 23rd over.
At Hong Kong Cricket Club, LSW Warriors scored a hard fought victory over Nomads. The LSW Warriors were made to struggle against the Nomads attack, with internationals Tabarak Dar (30) and Munir Dar (45) providing the main contributions in their total of 178. For Nomads, Toby Brown picked up four wickets while Robert Tucker and Mal Costain grabbed three each. Nomads' reply was lead by Richard Hoare who scored 63, but Nomads could only manage a total of 161 as LSW Warriors eased to victory by 27 runs.
Nomads and Crusaders were in action again at Kowloon Cricket Club on Monday, 30th October in a match rescheduled from 14th October. Nomads batted first and scored 220-5 from their 35 overs with Watkins hitting 60 and Toby Brown 73. In reply, R Jones hit 97 not out and Manoj Cheruparambil scored 62 as Crusaders came up 6 runs short to suffer their first loss of the season. Robert Tucker was the most successful bowler for Nomads, claiming four wickets.

Three matches were played in the HKCA Sunday League in fine but hazy conditions on 29th October.
Pakistan Association paid a visit to Kowloon Cricket Club where they took on Infidels. Playing on the grass wicket, the Pakistani batsmen struggled against the Infidels attack as they were dismissed for 177 in the 40th over. Najeeb Amar top scored with 77 while Mustafa Ghulam grabbed four wickets and Manoj Cheruparambil took three. Roy Lamsam hit 72 and R Taylor 46 in reply as Infidels eased to a six-wicket victory in the 44th over to break their recent losing streak.
There was no change of fortune for competition leaders Little Sai Wan as they continued their unbeaten start to the season with a six-wicket victory over Millennium at Mission Road. Millennium batted first but were restricted to 167-9 from their 50 overs, with Irfan Ahmed claiming three wickets for Little Sai Wan. Jawaid Iqbal then hit 57 and Tabarak Dar 40 not out as LSW raced to victory in the 27th over.
Meanwhile, Scorpions scored a thumping 201-run victory over their HKCC club-mates Wanderers in a derby match played at Hong Kong Cricket Club. Tim Smart lead the way as Scorpions posted 271-8 from their 50 overs as Toby Brown also contributed 62 not out while Hugo Davison claimed five wickets for Wanderers. Luke Rewega grabbed four wickets as Wanderers capitulated for just 70 in 17.3 overs.

2006-07 HKCA Skitz Sports Bar Women's Cricket League
Three matches were played in the HKCA Skitz Sports bar Women's Cricket League over the weekend.
On Saturday, LSW suffered a ten wicket thrashing at the hands of the HKCC Willow Wielders in a match played at the Siu Sai Wan Stadium. The LSW batters had no answer for the bowling of Godiva Li, who claimed 6-12 in a devastating four over spell. Betty Chan led the Williow Weilders' chase for 63 with an unbeaten 31.
On Sunday, Lamma scored an equally decisive victory over Sri Lanka CC. Neisha Pratt posted her first century of the season as Lamma amassed 237-7 from their 35 overs, with Sam McIlwraith also contributing 32. Kylie Knott then claimed five wickets as SLCC were dismissed for just 79 in reply as Lamma ran away with victory by 158 runs.
LSW and KCC played each other on Monday, but at the time of writing, no result was available.
