Aravinda de Silva has been dropped from the one-day squad for the Singer tri-nation series after his recent poor form in the Hatton National Bank Series against Pakistan. He had played in last month's Asia Cup, but with the exception of a hundred against Bangladesh, had largely failed. He had though been asked to open the innings in Bangladesh.
Eric Upashantha also makes a return to the squad, not having played since last years world cup in England. He will be competing for the third seamer's spot with Sajeewa de Silva. Chaminda Vaas and Nuwan Zoysa are certain to play if they are fit.
It had been hoped that Kaushalya Weeraratne and Pramodya Wickramasinghe would have returned to full fitness in time for the series but neither was considered to be ready to resume their international careers.
Kumara Dharmasena returns to the squad after an absence of two years and will tighten the bowling attack and strengthen the batting. Sri Lanka may well play with two seamers and three spinners.
Romesh Kaluwitharana is likely to be given another chance as opener in the side but if he fails then the gloves may well go to Kumar Sangakkara, who has a good opportunity of playing even if he doesn't keep wicket.
