AUSTRALIA v PAKISTAN

At Melbourne, January 3 (day/night)

15-Apr-1991
At Melbourne, January 3 (day/night). Australia won by seven wickets. Toss: Pakistan. Another disappointing performance by Pakistan followed the loss of both openers to Rackemann in the space of four balls. On a difficult pitch, Mansoor and Imran were the only batsmen to show any aggression, with Imran's 39 from 62 balls in 99 minutes holding the lower-order batting together as the scoring slowed markedly. In reply Australia were 17 for two in the sixth over, and had Boon not been given the benefit on a run-out appeal 1 run later, they could have been in trouble. As it was, Border scored a splendid 69 not out from 103 balls and led Australia to a comfortable victory. Both he and Imran were captaining their countries for the 100th time in one-day international matches.
Man of the Match: A. R. Border.
