At Brisbane, February 11

At Brisbane, February 11. Australia won by 67 runs. Toss: Pakistan. A first-wicket stand of 154 in 28 overs and Moody's 89 in 106 minutes from 82 balls put the Australians into a virtually unbeatable position. One of Moody's four sixes landed in nearby Stanley Street, and another just failed to clear the Wilson Stand. Jones and Border, whose 24th run was his 5,000th in his 197th one-day international, increased the scoring-rate, and Australia moved on to 300, only the third time they had reached this milestone in a WSC match. Pakistan replied in kind, scoring at 6 runs an over, but they also lost wickets regularly. Imran's 82 from 89 balls was a valiant effort, but the dismissal of Salim Malik, run out by Moody's direct hit from the deep mid-wicket boundary, proved to be the turning-point.
