By Sa'adi Thawfeeq
The third and final four-day match between the touring
Commonwealth Bank Cricket Academy (CBCA) and the Sri Lanka Board
XI will be played for the Red Cow trophy presented by Delmege
Forsyth and Company Ltd at the Galle esplanade from September
20-23.
The sponsors are also awarding Red Cow trophies to the `Man of
the Match', `Best Batsman', `Best Bowler' and `Best Fielder' of
the match.
The Galle DCA who are conducting the match will issue free
tickets to all the schools in the district. A lottery will be
held on the final day of the match and the winner will receive
an autographed from Sri Lanka's master blaster Sanath
Jayasuriya, who will be the chief guest at the match.
Incidentally, Jayasuriya is the Red Cow drinking cricketer in
all their advertisments, and Delmege Forsyth has embarked on a
series of activities to promote sports such as cricket, rugby
and basketball to give young talent the best opportunity to
become world champions in their own chosen field.
The sponsors will also present gift packs to the other winners
of the lottery.
During the match, the Galle DCA along with the sponsors are also
utilising the services of the CBCA manager Rod Marsh, a former
Australian Test wicket-keeper, to hold a coaching session for 20
budding wicket-keepers picked from the district.
Galle DCA secretary Jayananda Warnaweera stated at a press
conference held at the Sri Lanka Cricket Board headquarters,
that it was after a lapse of five years that the Galle Stadium
is holding an international cricket match.
The stadium underwent a renovation recently, and with the help
of Galle Municipal Council's new mayor Lionel Premasiri, the
stadium wicket and outfield is being given its final touches
before the event on Saturday.
Highlights of each day's play will be shown by the national
television company, Rupavahini.
