Simon made his Durham debut in 1991 and celebrated his benefit year in 2001.
Simon holds a number of records for Durham including most first class
appearances for Durham (141), most first class wickets for Durham (518) and
most first class wickets in a season (77) for Durham 1996. Simon has missed
most of the 2001 and 2002 season due to injury, playing in only one Frizzell
County Championship game this season.
Marc Symington made his Durham first class debut in 1998, having made his
Sunday League debut in 1997 when playing for Durham Academy. Marc and Simon
join James Brinkley and Jimmy Daley, who were released earlier in the
season.
Durham Coach Martyn Moxon said: "Simon has been a great servant to Durham
County Cricket Club, but unfortunately he has had a series of injuries over
the last two seasons and as a result we have had to take the difficult
decision to not renew his contract."
"Similarly, it was a difficult decision regarding Marc Symington, as he has
played a significant amount of cricket for the First XI this season and has
always given 100 per cent effort and commitment. I would like to wish them
both every success in the future."
