Dennis Jenkins updates the current Brunei Darussalam season:
The current domestic cricket season in Brunei Darussalam started in the last week of February. Six teams, representing Brunei Shell Recreation Club (BSRC), Cavaliers, Manggis, Menglait, Panaga and Royal Brunei Yacht Club (RBYC) competed in the MJVI Cricket League, which finished in July 1999. Royal Brunei Yacht Club emerged winner of the League trophy for the year 1999. Second and third positions went to Cavaliers and Menglait respectively. Mujahid of Menglait emerged as the highest wicket (23) taker with an economy rate of 7.00 while Stuart Alpe of Panaga club scored the highest number of runs (259) in the recently concluded MJVI League.
The same six teams are now going to compete in the GALFAR Knockout Tournament, which will start on 29 August 1999. The Final of the Tournament is scheduled on 12th September at the Panaga club cricket ground.
The fixture for 1999 also includes two six-a-side tournaments. Eight teams participated in the Glamour 6-a-side, which was played in May 1999. It was won by RBYC team. The final was played between RBYC and Menglait B. The Imex 6-a-side tournament took place on 22nd August, 1999.
Brunei will also compete in the BORNEO CUP, to be held in the last week of September 1999, against the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak. The BORNEO CUP is an annual competition. Venue for the BORNEO CUP this year is Kuching, capital of the Malaysian state of Sarawak The Brunei State Team, selected by the National Selection Committee, includes Dennis Jenkins (Manager/Player), Manzur Ahmad (Captain), Sanjiv Sabharwal (Vice Captain), Mohd Shahnawaz, Shorin Khan, Siddik, Mujahid, Mahmud, Renato Renonaine, Lahiru, Saeed, Stuart Alpe and Trevor Jolly. Arun, Graem Bean, Shan and Himayat are reserve players.
