Details of process involved in the selection of the Australian captain

The injury to Stephen Waugh's left buttock means he is unavailable for the third Ansett Australia Test match against the West Indies, starting in Adelaide on 15 December

The injury to Stephen Waugh's left buttock means he is unavailable for the third Ansett Australia Test match against the West Indies, starting in Adelaide on 15 December.
As such, a new Captain is required, and outlined below are details of the process involved in finalising that appointment.
The squad for each international match is chosen by the National Selection Panel comprising of Trevor Hohns (Chairman), Andrew Hilditch, Allan Border and Geoff Marsh. This may include recommendations for the positions of Captain and Vice-Captain.
At that point, those recommendations are referred to the 14 Directors for approval, and those Directors will then act in accordance with the Australian Cricket Board's by-law 6.4, which states:
"When the selection of a team ... to represent Australia has been completed and such selection has been approved by the Directors, the Directors must from such players so selected appoint a Captain and a Vice-Captain."
As such, the choice of Captain and Vice-Captain will not be made until the side for the Third Ansett Australia Test match is selected.
The Test squad is likely to be selected on Sunday evening 10 December and it is expected it will be announced at 11am AEST on Monday 11 December.
The 14 Directors are: Denis Rogers (TAS, Chairman), Cam Battersby (QLD), Jack Clarke (SA), Walter Edwards (WA), Brian Freedman (NSW), Bob Horsell (NSW), Bill Jocelyn (NSW), Bob Merriman (VIC), Damien Mullins (QLD), Creagh O'Connor (SA), Bob Paulsen (WA), Trevor Robertson (SA), Tony Steele (VIC) and Geoff Tamblyn (VIC).
