Donation of corneas to South Africa

One might recall last month the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Eye Donation Society were instrumental in a pioneering effort, gifting 2 corneas to the Bangladesh Cricket Board which were presented by our Cricket Captain Sanath Jayasuriya.

With the advent of the South Africa Cricket Tour, the Hon. Minister of Tourism and Sports, Lakshman Kiriella, together with our High Commissioner in South Africa, and once again with the support of the Sri Lanka Eye Donation Society intends to gift 2 corneas to South Africa, which will be carried by our Cricket Team and eventually presented to the South African Cricket Board by Sanath Jayasuriya.

The Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka appreciates the great humanitarian service rendered thus for by the Sri Lanka Eye Donation Society, and has ear-marked further donations in like manner to the Cricketing fraternity Worldwide.

The corneas will be handed over to Sanath Jayasuriya tomorrow prior to the teams departure.

Representing the Eye Donation Society will be its President, Secretary, Treasurer and Mrs. Iranganee Silva.
