Fiery welcome of the day Standing at six-and-a-half feet tall, Kevin Hurdle started the match promisingly enough, digging in a short one and extracting steepling bounce. It surprised Sanath Jayasuriya and he couldn't get out of the way in time, bruising his left index finger.
Wayward over of the day Things went downhill for Hurdle from then on. His second over, the third of the match, briefly threatened to beat Mohammad Sami's record for the longest over in an ODI (17). It spanned 14 deliveries, cost 24 runs, contained six over-stepping instances and two wides.
Costly lapse(s) of the day: Dwayne Leverock has attained cult status in the early stages of the World Cup, thanks largely to his girth rather than left-arm spin, but his poor catching today might make him highly unpopular in Bermuda. Standing at first slip to Saleem Mukuddem's medium-pace, Leverock watched wide eyed as Mahela Jayawardene edged his first ball but couldn't latch on to a regulation catch to his right. He let Jayawardene off again on 51 - this, a dolly at point, was even easier than the first - and capped off a miserable day on the field.
Celebration of the day: Leverock provided a few belly-laughs after his maiden World Cup wicket. Having watched Kumar Sangakkara hole out to midwicket, Leverock broke into a jig - a combination of a slow march and hip-gyrating jive - and thoroughly enjoyed the moment.
Near-miss of the day Lasith Malinga was a whisker away from becoming the fifth bowler to claim a World Cup hat-trick. Having got rid of David Hemp and Irvine Romaine, he unleashed a screaming full-length delivery to Janeiro Tucker. The ball clipped Tucker on the pads and prompted a huge appeal for lbw, only for Daryl Harper to turn down an oh-so-close shout.
Most inventive shot of the day Of the five sixes in the game, the last shot by Hurdle was definitely the most innovative. Facing up to Muttiah Muralitharan, he swivelled around and slammed a low full toss over deep fine leg - yes, deep fine leg - for six. It was one of the last acts of the day but surely one of the most enterprising.
