Two England players could be named in an interim report by Delhi police into
match-fixing and corruption in cricket. The report's due to be made public at the end of this month.
The probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation follows the corruption
charges made in April by the Delhi police against the then South African captain
Hansie Cronje and three of his team-mates, who all face possible prosecution
after admitting their involvement.
According to an AFP news agency report, a "highly-placed source from the federal agency" claims the CBI report may list corruption charges against two English and three Pakistani cricketers and "will contain an exhaustive picture of corruption in the game."
The CBI recently visited Britain during its investigations, and the report is likely to be treated seriously by the England and Wales Cricket Board. They were the organisation who first revealed information implicating Cronje in match-fixing.
Andrew Walpole, the ECB's media relations officer, said: "We have had no
official contact from the Indian police on this matter and until we do, there is
not a lot we can say."
