The President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), AC
Muthiah will talk to the Indian captain Sourav Ganguly regarding the
latter's temper tantrums. The BCCI is displeased at the way Ganguly
has been involved in skirmishes on the field. It should be mentioned
here that in the recent Coca-Cola Cup, Ganguly was suspended for one
match and then fined 75% of his match fee in another. BCCI officials
feel that Ganguly is bringing disrepute to the game because of his
frequent loss of temper.
In fact, things have reached such a stage that a number of BCCI
officials have even asked for his replacement as captain of the Indian
team. At the moment, however, the President and the secretary Jaywant
Lele are of the view that he should continue, simply because there is
no one to replace him. However, the BCCI president has decided that he
will definitely talk to the Indian captain and ask him to show some
restraint on the field.
It is not only the officials who are peeved with Ganguly. Along with
them at least three selectors on the national panel are also angry
with him. The failure of the Indian team to win the Coca-Cola Cup will
no doubt put further pressure on Ganguly as far as his relations with
the selection committee goes.
