Super Bowl XXXVIII...
Two years after upsetting St. Louis in their only Super bowl victory, the New England Patriots are strong favourites at 5/12 to beat the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. On a 14- game winning streak, they are facing a team who started the season as unconsidered 80/1 shots, but who have continually produced the shocks against better fancied teams. Carolina have consistently defied the handicap in recent weeks, but it remains to be seen if they can overcome a seven points Handicap this weekend?
CAR Panthers +7.0 @ 20/21 v NE Patriots -7.0 @ 20/21...
To celebrate this `greatest show on turf' bet365 have moved their prices, and now bet 20/21 (from 10/11) on all game, 1st and 2nd half lines, giving you even better value for money. A bet of £100 on the game at 20/21 now returns you £195.24 compared to £190.91 at the old price.
bet365 will also be betting IN-RUNNING, as the action unfolds, on the big game. Markets will include: spread or money line / game total, team to score next, next scoring play and next quarter betting. Coverage of the event itself will begin at 22.00 GMT on Sky Sports and Channel 5.
Horseracing...
This weekend's racing is at the mercy of the weather but, should the wintry blast relent, Bear On Board (6/1) looks to have a good chance in the Singer & Friedlander National Trial at Uttoxeter (14.15). This progressive stayer is on a four-timer following an impressive win over 4 miles last time out at Cheltenham, putting daylight between himself and the useful Fasgo on the run-in. The second has a 3lb pull for their re-match on Saturday, and looks the likely danger at 8/1, but lacks the scope of the winner. In recent days Bear on Board has come in for support for the Grand National (now 20/1), in anticipation of a good run in Saturday's Trial.
Magical Bailiwick heads the betting for the Skybet chase at Doncaster at 5/1, and this progressive Martin Pipe chaser can be fancied to complete a five-timer! Raised only 6lb for his last win at Wincanton, he should be even more at home on this galloping track with its long straight and relatively soft fences. The only down side is that his regular pilot, Champion jockey Tony McCoy, is more likely to head to Ascot to ride the fancied Tiutchev. The latter is chasing a third win in Saturday's Grade 1 contest, but faces some serious opposition from the likes of Le Coudray and Le Roi Miguel. However, Tiutchev has been in the form of his life this season (2nd in the King George), and this has been his target all year.
Channel 4 Offer...
Back the winner of a channel 4 race at 4/1 or over and we will give you a free bet to the same stake (up to £50) on the next channel 4 race. It doesn't stop there - if your free bet also wins at 4/1 or over you get another free bet on the next televised race! This weekend's meetings are Doncaster and Ayr, so don't forget to take advantage of this cracking offer!
Golf...
The old adage `horses for courses' will stand you in good stead if you are considering a bet on this week's FBR Open. Since this event was moved to the par-71 Scottsdale course, 11 winners of the event have at least one other finish of sixth or better, including defending champ Vijay Singh - twice a winner here. Problem is which of the 14 previous winners heading to Arizona this week to choose from! Narrow it down to the in-form players, and the two to concentrate on could be Rocco Mediate and Jesper Parnevik (both 33/1). Rocco's stroke average here is an incredible 67.65, almost a stroke better than anyone else, and his 16th place last weekend was a perfect warm-up for this. Parnevik had a wretched year in 2003, but has come out of the blocks flying this time, and can boast a win and a second place here. On the European Tour, defending champion Ernie Els is a warm favourite going into this week's Johnnie Walker Classic. Bet both these events in-running including Outright Winner and `Next Hole' betting - available throughout subject to TV coverage.
Blackburn v Chelsea (Sunday, 14.00 GMT ko)...
Rovers record against the Premiership `elite' has been poor, having amassed only 8 points from a possible 33, failing to win a game against a side in the top ten this season. This is in stark contrast to last season when they did the double against Arsenal, and enjoyed an away success at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea may lack the consistency of their main rivals but should be good enough here to plunge Blackburn deeper into the Relegation mire - for which they are 5/1 here at bet365.
Man United v Southampton (Saturday, 12.30 GMT ko)... Recent scores of 3-3, 5-0, 6-1 (including a hat-trick from Nistlerooy), from the last four seasons suggest that there could well be plenty of goals in this encounter - which makes our quote of 3/4 for Over 2.5 Goals look attractive. The Dutchman is pretty short to score first at 5/2, so go for a couple of high Correct Scores instead - United to win 3-1 (9/1), or 3-2 (40/1).
Arsenal v Man City (Sunday, 16.05 GMT ko)... Arsenal, unbeaten in the League this season, have won nine consecutive games against City and are unlikely to spoil that run here - despite being without the suspended Patrick Vieira. City's failings in defence once again re-surfaced in last weeks Cup tie against Spurs, and they are now on an 11-game winless streak. The Gunners are 1/4 to win at home, but can be backed at 8/13 in our Half Time/Full Time market.
Australian Open...
Marat Safin and Andre Agassi served up a thrilling semi-final, with the Russian finally coming on top in the fifth set. He will face either Roger Federer or Juan-Carlos Ferrero in Sunday's Final (03.00 GMT). Our in-running markets will include: Match Winner; Score in the Next Game; Correct Score Set Betting; and Current Set Winner.
