India v Zimbabwe 1997-1998

At Cuttack, April 9

15-Apr-1999
At Cuttack, April 9. India won by 32 runs. Toss: Zimbabwe.
India continued their impressive form to set a daunting target, despite languishing at 26 for three in the ninth over. When Jadeja joined Azharuddin the nature of the contest changed abruptly. Neither batsman gave a chance, though Azharuddin, just after reaching his century, pulled a no-ball from Huckle to deep mid-wicket. He walked, only to be recalled a moment later. In ferocious heat, the pair then extended their unbroken partnership to 275, an all-wicket one-day international record, beating the 263 added by Aamir Sohail and Inzamam-ul-Haq for Pakistan against New Zealand in 1993-94. Azharuddin's eventual 153 not out took 150 balls and included 17 fours and a six. In Zimbabwe's reply, Grant Flower scored a gritty century, but wickets fell with regularity - and India were never threatened.
Man of the Match: M. Azharuddin.
