The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Friday promoted Iqbal Qasim to
chairman of the Cricket Management Committee in place of Javed Miandad
who had refused to work with the present setup.
Iqbal Qasim had been serving as acting chairman of the committee.
Miandad, a couple of month back, had refused to head the CMC in what
is expected to be his reaction after he was unceremoniously dumped as
Pakistan coach after the tour to New Zealand in April.
Iqbal, who also served as selector in the present setup, later gave
the PCB chairman a detailed briefing on the domestic season and
qualifications for departmental teams to get entry into Patron's
Trophy Grade-II.
The PCB chairman also accepted its marketing consultant Zahid Bashir's
resignation. Zahid had been engaged in cold war with some of the top
PCB officials who were unhappy with him.
The high level meeting of the PCB also reviewed the complete and
revised Vision-2005 documents. The approved documents were likely to
be released in about a fortnight, a spokesman said in a press release.
The PCB chairman also held a meeting with the members ofthe senior
selection committee and senior cricket officials to review
theperformance of players based on domestic cricket tournament matches
played so far. Plans for future were also discussed, the statement
added.
The PCB chairman also held meeting with the junior selection committee
to review the performance of Grade-II competitions. The selectors
submitted their observations, especially about the new talent
discovered during the matches.
The training and future plans of the Under-19 were also discussed.
