FORMER West Indies cricket great Sir Garfield Sobers
and current vice-captain Brian Lara will be two of the
special guest players who will compete in the sixth
Panasonic "The Championships" golf tournament at the
Sandals Golf and Country Club from September 13-14.
Tournament chairman Brian Roper said both were avid
golfers and keen to demonstrate their golfing skills.
The event is expected to attract a full field of 146
competitors.
The main prizes will be furnished by Appliance Traders
Limited in conjunction with Panasonic Latin America and
are valued at about J$3 million.
The competition includes men's, women's, seniors,
women's seniors, super seniors and junior sections.
The defending champions are: Men - Keith Stein, Women -
Maggie Lyn, Seniors - Cleo Taylor, Women's Seniors -
Cynthia Tuckey, Super Seniors - James Winfield and
Juniors - Simon Levy.
Meanwhile, 28-year-old Englishman Andy Gorman has been
appointed national coach of Jamaica's team for the
Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships in the Cayman
Islands next month.
