Jawaid Iqbal has announced his retirement from international cricket to focus on his cricket coaching career. Jawaid, 38, has been a loyal servant to Hong Kong cricket over the years who featured in a number of tours by Hong Kong teams including the ACC Trophy campaigns in 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2010. A useful off-spinner and reliable middle to lower order batsman, he played his last match for Hong Kong against Nepal at the ACC Trophy Elite 2010 in Kuwait.
Jawaid decided to announce his retirement after failing to make the squad for the 16th Asian Games to be held in Guangzhou in November 2010.
In addition to his playing career, Jawaid has established himself as a respected cricket coach and in 2008 he received the HKCA Coach of the Year award. He was recently named as coach of the Dragons team to contest the Epoch Times Elite Player Series, to be played in July and August 2010.
