According to a report in MidDay, Abhijit Kale has tendered an unconditional apology to Jagmohan Dalmiya, the BCCI president, over his role in the cash-for-places scandal that rocked Indian cricket a few months ago. The report states that Kale, in a letter written to Dalmiya, has admitted trying to influence Kiran More and Pranab Roy, though he denied having offered them money.
Kale has also apparently requested the board to be lenient with him, saying that a ban from cricket would be a heavy punishment for someone who is his family's sole source of income.
A three-member disciplinary committee headed by Dalmiya will decide Kale's fate on June 2. The apology letter is believed to be an attempt to lessen any punishment that they might inflict.
The report goes on to add that the committee will also rebuke More and Roy for not bringing the matter to the board's notice immediately.
