Khaya Majola, the United Cricket Board's director of amateur cricket, died at 1pm on Monday. He had been ill with cancer of the colon for more than two years and contracted jaundice on Saturday.
Percy Sonn, president of the UCB, said South African cricket had lost a great servant.
"I'd known Khaya for more than 20 years," said Sonn. "We go back to the old SA Cricket Board days, although he was a much better player than I was. He was a wonderful man and a fine administrator who was passionate about developing cricket in the underprivileged areas. His death is a tragic loss to South African cricket generally and development cricket in particular."
Majola leaves a wife Cynthia and two children, Vukile and Siphokaza.
