Not much is happening in Matabeleland cricket at present with the England tour, as the week is taken up with the two one-day matches.
There will be a change to the Matabeleland selection panel as Dave Riley, who was nominated at the recent AGM, was unaware that his name was being put forward and is not available; he has withdrawn from the panel. Until the next club delegates' meeting, where a replacement will be nominated, former Matabeleland convener and national selector Derrick Townshend will join the panel.
The selectors will shortly be naming two sides for a two-day match on 17 and 18 November, in the form of Possibles and Probables, then to select a squad of about 16 players that will then form the Logan Cup squad for the first-class competition next year. With the national side away, it will be an ideal opportunity for some of the fringe players to be given a chance of playing first-class cricket.
As reported last week, negotiations are on going with the Kenya Cricket Association for the proposed cricket tour in December.
