Glenn McGrath has supported calls for specialist coaches for Australia in the wake of their Ashes loss last month. Cricket Australia is reviewing the national set-up after relinquishing the Ashes and there is speculation about the future of the coach John Buchanan.
McGrath said Australia would soon emulate England's model, with players having access to specialist coaches in a range of areas. "You look at all the big professional teams around the world and they've got every base covered," McGrath said. "If we want to become more professional as a unit, I feel that is the way we will go. It's only a matter of time before that comes in."
Brett Lee has backed Buchanan, while Damien Martyn said it would be wrong to blame Buchanan for everything that went wrong in England. Martyn, who was dropped from the team for this month's Test against a World XI, said "the blame can't be solely on anyone, because most of us didn't do well".
"I wouldn't just blame him [Buchanan] and I wouldn't just blame one player. Our game wasn't quite what we wanted, it was frustrating for us. Nothing sort of clicked from a team point of view and an individual point of view."
