Nevin and Sulzberger join CLEAR Black Caps for Pakistan One-Day Internationals

Wellington wicket-keeper batsman, Chris Nevin, and Central Districts spin bowler Glen Sulzberger have been named as the final two members of the CLEAR Black Caps squad to contest three One-Day Internationals against Pakistan later this month.

The two replace Adam Parore and Grant Bradburn who both toured to Sri Lanka last month.

Chairman of the selection panel of Sir Richard Hadlee said: "Chris Nevin offers more versatility to the batting lineup. He is capable of opening with Nathan Astle and he may also be trialled lower down the order where we would expect him to maintain a high strike rate and add impetus to the run-scoring. Nevin had an outstanding last summer with the gloves setting a new record for most wicket-keeping dismissals (47) in a domestic season.

"While Adam Parore's recent Test form has been good, his 'keeping in the one-dayers has not been as sharp as it should be and he has been too inconsistent with the bat."

Hadlee said the panel, with an eye to the World Cup in 2003, was also considering the long term development of Lou Vincent as a wicket-keeper. Vincent kept for the State Auckland Aces last summer and also kept for New Zealand 'A' in one match in India taking four catches.

The selection panel has opted for Glen Sulzberger as the second spin bowler of the squad. Sulzberger has impressed selector Ross Dykes on the New Zealand 'A' tour to India where Dykes is managing the side.

Hadlee said Sulzberger had suffered from an ankle injury towards the end of last season and the injury had affected his form during the domestic summer, however his recent performance in India, including a five-wicket bag in one match, had shown enough for him to be given another opportunity at international level.
