New Zealand: Contract talks start

Canterbury Cricket expects to open negotiations with Wasim Akram's
agent this week about coming to play in New Zealand for the Shell Cup
season.
Chief executive Tony Murdoch will make contact with Akram's Pakistani
agent in England.
"I'd hoped things would be sorted out in the first week of this month
but now that looks like it will not be the case."
Murdoch said there was probably less urgency for Akram with the
series here not starting until late December, while he has been
playing for Pakistan against the Australian tourists.
"But we do want to get a decision to allow for arrangements to be
made sooner rather later."
