Nottinghamshire 692 for 7 dec defeated Surrey 217 and 404 (Ramprakash 107, Bicknell 59) by an innings and 71 runs
Scorecard
Rain and a seventh-wicket stand of 101 between Mark Ramprakash and Martin Bicknell could not save Surrey on their final day against Nottinghamshire. When play resumed on a cold morning at The Oval, Surrey were trailing by 255 runs with four wickets remaining. Bicknell and Ramprakash made a decent fist of things, but when they each fell on 296, Bicknell trapped lbw by Mark Ealham for 59, Ramprakash bowled by Graeme Swann, the end was nigh. Yet their comrades weren't going down without a fight of their own. The No. 10 Nayan Doshi added 33 before he was bowled by Ryan Sidebottom, while James Ormond (35) and Mohammad Akram (27 not out) provided stern late resistance. Around lunch the heavens opened and it looked as though Surrey were going to cling on for an unlikely draw. And when play finally resumed, the valiant final pairing of Ormond and Akram hung around for a while, frustrating Notts. But, ultimately, they couldn't hold out as Ormond edged Swann to Chris Read and Nottinghamshire had a deserved victory.
Hampshire 275 and 304 defeated Middlesex 279 and 236 (Tremlett 4-59, Warne 4-58, Weekes 49) by 64 runs
Scorecard
It's been a good week for Chris Tremlett, who took 4 for 59 to bowl Hampshire to victory against Middlesex, and displayed the form that earned him inclusion in the England development squad. Hampshire's captain, Shane Warne, produced an equally scintillating display with 4 for 58 to consign Middlesex to yet another defeat. The visitors resumed on six without loss this morning, chasing 301 for an unlikely victory on a sluggish pitch. Although Ed Smith topscored with 52 and Paul Weekes added 49, no other batsman could progress beyond 24 and they duly folded.
Gloucestershire 466 and 119 for 3 (Hancock 41*) defeated Glamorgan 239 and 345 (Elliott 123, Hemp 57) by seven wickets
Scorecard
Gloucestershire made short work of consigning Glamorgan to their third consecutive defeat early on the fourth day at Sophia Gardens, the first time for 83 years that Glamorgan have lost their three opening matches. Resuming on 59 for 3, Kadir Ali (20*) and Tim Hancock (41*) struck the 60 runs required for victory within the first hour. A burst of Hancock mayhem - he struck five fours and a six from 65 balls - raced Gloucestershire home.
