Pakistan v Bangladesh

Utpal Shuvro
15-Apr-2004

At Multan, September 9, 2003. Pakistan won by 137 runs. Toss: Pakistan. One-day international debuts: Junaid Zia; Rajin Saleh.
This Multan pitch was completely different to the greenish one used for the memorable Test. On a batsman's paradise, Pakistan made their highest one-day total against Bangladesh. Yasir Hameed, after two centuries on debut in the Test series, made another here, dancing down the pitch to attack the spinners. The final thrust then came from Younis Khan and Inzamam-ul-Haq, replacing the suspended Rashid Latif as captain. Younis was the more savage, and his 31-ball 59 included several astonishing sweep shots off the quicker bowlers. Pakistan scored 126 from the last 12 overs. Bangladesh lost a wicket in their first over, and were 52 for five by the 13th. Mushfiqur Rahman, one of three recently arrived one-day specialists, delayed the inevitable.
Man of the Match: Yasir Hameed.
