Boundary-filled hundreds from Parthiv Patel and Subramaniam Badrinath, for the second consecutive match, punished Kenya and put India A in a position from where a clean sweep of the series is a formality. On a cool day at Mombasa, with the wind blowing across from the coast, Patel and Badrinath again tormented Kenya with a 192-run fourth wicket stand, in just under 40 overs, before Badrinath added 155 with Arjun Yadav (60). It all added up to a total of 429 for 5, at which India declared, before Irfan Pathan removed the Kenyan openers.
Patel was at ease during his hundred, scoring runs almost at will on a very good batting track. Though Pathan fell early, slashing a wide delivery from Lameck Onyango to first slip for 16, Patel found the in-form Badrinath to carry on the fun. Patel was the dominant scorer in their partnership and his pulling and driving was especially worthy as he regularly found the boundaries all around the pitch. He also ran the doubles well.
In the second over after lunch, from Hiren Varaiya, Patel hit 4, 4, 4, 2, 4, 4 and the bowler was immediately removed. Thomas Odoyo was forced to open up the field after the 55th over in an attempt to stop the bleeding. Patel was finally dismissed by Nehemiah Odhiambo, misjudging the line of one that kept low and hit him below the knee roll.
Badrinath continued his run of form by ticking away to his half-century. After Patel's dismissal he was joined by Yadav and the two continued the run-making with little hassle. Badrinath reached his hundred with a four off Varaiya and stepped it up, taking 44 deliveries to add 57 to his score. Jimmy Kamande was picked for five boundaries in two overs, and even Tony Suji and Varaiya were not spared. Yadav moved to 50 from 84 balls, with the help of seven boundaries, and celebrated with a six off Suji. The bowler had his revenge just after, as Yadav chipped one to Kamande. Mohammad Kaif declared the following over with his side 211 runs ahead.
Kenya got off to a horrible start as Pathan removed Maurice Ouma in the first over, mistiming a pull to substitute fielder Cheteshwar Pujara, and David Obuya leg before in the third. At 4 for 2, Kenya have plenty to do.
