Pakistan have included the Oval Test's match referee Mike Procter as one of their witnesses in the ball tampering case and are hoping that his presence would enhance the chances of Inzamam-ul-Haq escaping an ICC ban.
According to Shaharyar Khan, chairman PCB, Procter is one of 19 witnesses Pakistan's lawyers are planning to call in the ICC hearing over Inzamam's disciplinary case expected to take place in the last week of September.
Procter was the man at the helm of the fourth Test between Pakistan and England at the Oval last month that ended in a controversial forfeiture after umpires Darrell Hair and Billy Doctrove accused the tourists of ball tampering on the fourth day of the match. Though Procter has not officially commented on the issue, it is believed that he did agree with the umpires' decision and wanted the match to resume after Pakistan staged a dressing room sit-in following the accusations.
Pakistan have hired a team of lawyers and are looking to put up a strong defense of Inzamam, who if found guilty of charges leveled by the ICC, could be banned for up to four Tests and ten ODIs.
