Press Conference Highlights from England v West Indies

Marcus Trescothick played a great innings, which on that wicket we felt reasonably happy with

19-Jul-2005
Michael Vaughan (ENG) - Captain, seven runs
On England's performance:
"Marcus Trescothick played a great innings, which on that wicket we felt reasonably happy with. Maybe we were 15 or 20 runs light. We came out and bowled not too well, but eventually we got it in the right areas and put them under pressure and at 147-8 we felt confident of winning the game."
On England's season:
"This is something new to us. We've had an outstanding summer and we haven't lost many games of cricket. Over the last few weeks we've played some excellent one-day stuff. Today the partnership between Browne and Bradshaw was the difference."
On the West Indies performance:
"You have to take you hat off to Courtney Browne and Ian Bradshaw (WIN). They played it sensibly and didn't give us a run out chance. Their partnership has made the difference between them winning and losing."
On the bowling:
"I try to judge our attack in a given situation and a given wicket and we felt that spin out there wasn't going to be the best option and that's why Trescothick and Collingwood bowled. I thought we did an excellent job."
On being at 147-8:
" At 147-8 we'd done all the hard work and the two guys that came in played very well and took the game away from us."
On the fading light:
"We all wanted to finish the game today when we've got a full house. So I was delighted when they stayed out. I think when you get the opportunity to finish a game on a given day you should take it. Steve Harmison was bowling at 96 mph and they were keeping him out so you must give those two guys credit."
On the England team:
"We're all gutted to have lost a huge game, a final. England has never won a one-day trophy on the world stage so we're absolutely gutted to have lost the game. But if you look at the bigger picture and the way we've played over the last few weeks then the guys can be very proud of themselves and proud of what they've achieved. The World Cup is the big one and I look around our team and most of the guys will be involved so we can only get better."
