'Proud to have a tram named after me' - Broad

Stuart Broad railroaded Australia at Trent Bridge, but a tram named after him will make sure the people of his hometown stay right on track.

Nottingham's city council had invited nominations from locals and Broad received the highest number of votes. His name will go up on the 237 tram, which will be unveiled on Thursday.

Broad follows football manager Brian Clough, Olympic and world champion ice skaters Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean and boxer Carl Froch to have a tram named after him.

This comes on the heels of Broad taking a career-best 8 for 15 at Trent Bridge, where he plays for Nottinghamshire. His family and friends were there to watch him skittle Australia for 60, become the fifth English fast bowler to 300 Test wickets and lead England's efforts to regain the urn.

"No matter where I travel in the world, it will be nice to know that a tram carrying my name will be travelling over the River Trent, the place which has become my home and where we secured the Ashes victory," Broad said

Jane Urquhart of Nottingham City Council added: "It seems only fitting that a world class cricket player is honoured with his name on a world class transport system, and I am really pleased we can pay tribute to him in his home town where he secured the Ashes victory earlier this year."

Broad was booed in Australia, copped a broken nose against India last summer but is now back at the top of his game with an Ashes victory. Perhaps it would have been better to name a roller-coaster after him.
